How Toastmasters Work |
At
Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with
others in a supportive environment. Toastmasters clubs usually are
made up of up to 30 members who meet once a week for one or two
hours. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice
conducting a meeting, giving speeches (impromptu or prepared) and
offer and receive constructive evaluations. |

Members learn
how to plan, conduct and in general "lead" a meeting |
Members
present one or two minute speech on various topcs with little or no
prior knowledge of the topic... what we call Tabletopics. |
Two or three
members present speeches based on projects from manuals in
Toastmasters' proven communication and/or leadership program.
Projects cover topics such as speech organization, vocal variety,
language, gestures and persuasion. |
Every
prepared or Tabletopic speaker is assigned an evaluator who points
out speech strengths and offers suggestions for improvement. |

Competent Leadership) each with 10 projects to be completed, that
will greatly help you become a better |

speaker and a
more confident leader. You will also have access to other books and
educational resources.
Once you are a
member you will also receive the award-winning Toastmaster,
a
monthly magazine that offers the latest insights on speaking and
leadership techniques. Make sure and take a look at some of the
magazines when you visit our club. We always have some copies at the meetings. |

Toastmasters
and Leadership |
|
Leasership
cannot be learned in a day. It takes practice. In Toastmasters
members learn leasdership skills by organizing and conducting
meetings and by completing projects in the leadership manuals.
Projects address such skills as listening, planning, motivation and
team building and give members the opportunity to practice them.
Taking on an
executive position can also help you become a more effective leader. |

is a phenomenal opportunity for someone to develop him/herself
logically, emotionally and really become a leader, not just a
speaker" ...Anthony Robins |

went to a meeting of Toastmasters, I was a little nervous. I
had done some public speaking, but I didn't know what to
expect. I was surprised at how much actually happens in a meeting... Jackson
